Dear Community, 

We are reaching out during a time where anti-trans bills and policies are proliferating throughout the United States. This past month, bill HF 3843 was introduced in the Minnesota legislature. It would limit how individuals access public facilities like restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms. The authors of this bill define a person's sex as “either male or female as biologically defined,” which we know to be false, and refer to transgender and nonbinary individuals as possessing “nontraditional identities.”

The GSC affirms that the University of Minnesota will continue to be a safe place for trans, nonbinary, and queer people to study, work, live, and exist. Individuals of all gender identities will continue to have the opportunity to access housing, restrooms, and locker rooms that are comfortable and affirming to them, as noted in our Gender Equity and Access Policy.
