The Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies is one of the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life's key on-campus partners. They are the primary academic department on campus that features courses on queer theory, feminist studies, and critical analysis on gender identity and sexual orientation.
The Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life has collaborated with GWSS on several initiatives, including:
- GLBTQ Studies Board - Across multiple academic departments, this Board comprised of faculty, staff, and graduate students reviews syllabi and courses with significant GLBTQ content while promoting new courses to be created & networking across faculty and GLBT researchers across the U of M.
- GWSS Classroom Visits - The Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life has given workshops in GWSS classrooms on everything from gender identity to the GLBT rights movement to an educational workshop on the vogue ball scene.
- Tretter Collection Board - Members of the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life & GWSS serve on the Board of the Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection, a historical archive of GLBT activism, community involvement, decades of periodical, international information, tons of GLBT pride paraphernalia, and a wealth of research articles, journals, and sources that are proven to turn any undergrad or graduate student's research paper into an instant A+.
